Logan, OHIO
A Logan man was killed when his all-terrain vehicle slid on a hillside and fell off a cliff in Hocking County on New Year's Eve.
Cody Martin, 22, was riding an ATV along Cream Ridge Road near the Hocking State Forest shortly before midnight on Saturday when it apparently became stuck on a hillside, said Capt. Jerrod Alford of the sheriff's office.
Martin was attempting to free the ATV when it apparently slid backward on loose rock and fell 75 to 100 feet off a cliff, Alford said today. A friend who was riding with Martin witnessed the fall, he said.
Martin was pronounced dead at the scene, with the Hocking Hills State Park rope rescue team assisting deputies in removing his body, Alford said.
An investigation into the incident, which occurred near Gibisonville, continues.
