| WIth deer season in full swing we decided Burning Rock might be a little safer than Cold Knob so we loaded up the atvs and headed to Sophia today. We were at BR by 10:30 and after a short stop at the store and bathroom we headed out on the trails.
We had ridden the new trails last time we were there we decided to head out on the older trails. A large portion of the old riding area is closed for blasting and after running into a few blocked trails and a muddy road that was almost impassable we decided to head back across the road to the new section of trails.
They have added a couple new trails in the new section since we were there last and we had a pretty good time exploring the new trails. We rode a couple of the black trails and all of the blue trails along with some of the greens. Anyone expecting rockhouse black trails will be really disappointed in Burning Rocks blacks. They have added a bunch of water breaks on the steep sections which does make it a little more challenging but I didnt use 4 wheel drive on any of the trails except for the muddy road.
We got in a quick 45 miles and Jo decided that was enough for her since we havent been on the quads since we came back from Maine. We only saw two other groups of riders all day and the weather was pretty nice. Since we were at Beckley we decided to follow up the ride with a trip to Outback. A filet and a lobster tail sure made the trip that much more enjoyable. | |

| I just read that BR has added 11 additional miles and a connector to Slab Fork. Did this just happen or was it just announced? (dated 2/23/12) | |

| GBob, I am getting ready to update my ATV Trails map with the new Pocahontas trails and I wanted to update my BR trails. I do not have any of the new ones they added a few years ago on the other side of the road. I was wondering if you or any of the people you rode BR with had tracked any of the trails and if so would you please send them to me so I could include them in the latest map. I have emailed BR to see if they have any they will send me but I doubt they will. Thanks, Bob bobtitzer@gmail.com | |
