Last Thursday, Tequila and I headed towards Susquehannock State Forest before the trails closed for the season.
Loaded and ready to go, we headed out in the rain pointing north towards PA. As we got to Cowans Gap the rain stopped and the sun came out for the next three days of our trip. You couldn’t ask for better weather.
After a few hours in the truck, we were almost at our destination, and we had to detour off of Rt 144 to Rt 44. They were working on both roads, and oh my what a terrible road 44 is for pulling a trailer. I thought we were on the trail already. Finally we arrived at the Pine Log Motel about a half hour later than I thought we would.
Tequila enjoying the cool evening.
Went to the Pine Creek Inn for dinner, we both had the baked haddock with salad bar and a potato, and the stomach pump was optional for later because of the amount of food you get there. (Sorry, no pictures) While we were gone, the lodge owners, Gail & Wayne left us some quick bread in our room. Yum, now we have breakfast!
Friday it was off to the trailhead at Denton Hill. There were not many people there
The trails here are mostly open and very easy to navigate, but can be very scenic at times. DCNR crews had groomed most of them recently and they were in great shape.
Which way do we go? Had to look at the map
We rode to Lyman Run State Park for lunch. We had to pack our lunch as the concession stand was closed for the season. PB&J, hard boiled eggs and some carrots and celery did the trick.
This lot is usually packed with ATV’s during the summer.
Lyman Run Park from PEAK-A-BOO Vista.
There was a lot of logging in the forest, but we only saw a few trucks. Elevation 2525 feet.
We road a big total of 45 miles, but it was a great 45 at that. Looking forward to going back next year.
Day two started at SSRT where we met Midget & Suze for a days ride. We rode the rail trail for a while and some of the township roads first.
The good old viaduct bridge.
Then it was to Clarence and Newman’s for lunch.
We left Newman’s and headed for Bloody Skillet. The creek was low this time, so no trouble making it across.
Midget & Suze crossing.
Taking a break at the top of the connector.
Coming down from Bloody Skillet. (steep)
Heading back to SSRT
The creek again from the other side.
We did about 68 miles that day and headed back to the Kwik Fill for a shower and some hot pizza from Fox’s. The weather was great and another great riding trip.
