It was a cold morning in Snow Shoe but those dedicated SSRT members showed up in bunches to help with the first work detail scheduled by Eric Brooks. Everyone got together to discuss the different work needing done and appropriate people needed for each job. The Centre County Probation Office also provided a group of people to assist with the community service too. All would return to the Gillentown Trailhead and eat lunch around noon.
So, Luke Dearolf & Kyle Leaman from Lancaster headed up the trail with a crew to sweep and clean concrete ramps and collect trash from Gillentown Trailhead to the Viaduct Bridge. Lisa & Howard Grove took a crew to clean up trash & brush limbs between Gillentown Trailhead and Clarence. Jessica, Wendy & Travis Barnyak, Mark Watson, Trilby Mayes, Eileen & Terry Long headed up crews to collect trash from McCloskey’s Instrument along route 144 to the yellow light in Moshannon and out to the Old Livergood Garage. Then they proceed back Askey’s Cemetery Road to the Gillentown Trailhead. Then, finishing up on Bumbarger & Tarman Roads. Three Pickup loads of trash was collected.
George Holt & Mark Watson also led a crew to install various signs at various locations. Look for the new identification signs placed on some of the gates. We hope to have all gates identified by summer.
Eric Brooks, Ed Thomas, Jack Miller, Larry Mayes led crews trimming limbs on main road leading from highway to the parking lot at Gillentown Trailhead. They also cut the tree off of the picnic tables that fell during the winter season. Then, Ed Thomas & Jack Miller also cut a few more trees adjacent to the location of where the Pavilion will be erected eventually.
We want to thank all those that volunteered your Saturday to help keep our trail, township and state roads clean and also to help with the other work to maintain the trail so it can be safe for all users.
