The brute forces turn Empty
PostSubject: The brute forces turn   The brute forces turn Icon_minitimeSat Jan 15, 2011 6:04 pm

Got Jos atv put back together and all seems well with it..for now. Put the brute force in the basement and pulled the back plastic off it. It becomes clear why they offer one muffler and one exhaust pipe. The back cylinders pipe is welded into the muffler. The front pipe slides into the muffler and I was surprised that it actually came apart relatively easy. I kept seeing pics of the muffler with only one pipe on it and now I understand. The pipe broke right in a bend so dont know how big a job it would be to get it welded and make sure it holds the right angle from the cylinder.
Anyhooo enoug for one day.

I think you jinxed me Bob. Guess what? Back cylinder exhaust is leaking like a biotch. Right at the head. May be the gasket but I don't know yet. I looked in the manual and saw what you wrote: The back pipe is part of the muffler. Ship...

Keep me posted on how your repair goes. I'll start taking mine apart next weekend.

Sorry Lee...I'm not much a mechanic so you might be able to get at yours better than mine but so far I had to take the back and both side panels off to get at stuff. I also had to take out the battery and battery box to get at the top nut on the exhaust. I was surprised that the muffler slipped off the front cylinder pipe pretty easily however the bolts holding the heat shield on are too rusted to do anything with. The back pipe bolt had already rusted thru the heat shield so that one isnt a problem anymore Smile I'll take some pics when I get home this evening. Since the pipe blew apart in a bend I'm not sure how hard its gonna be to have a piece of pipe bent and rewelded and hold the exact shape. Anyhooo sorry I jinxed you. If they come out with PS on it this year I may be looking at a new toy anyway

Check this site Bob. $140 for the rear pipe muffler section...

G-Daddy. I put the HMF slip on my Brute it eliminates the one piece exhaust and pipe combo and gives you a stainless rear exhaust pipe. Very easy to put on did not have to remove anything. This one shown is the swamp series I used the Pinnland Pro.

I added the HMF optimizer when I did the exhaust. HMF programmed it for me before I put it on however about 18 months later somehow I burned it up and the fuel injection system flooded the cylinders. I scraped it and it runs just a little lean now. However I don’t think it is terribly lean and I haven’t worried about it.

Brute with back and both side panels removed. You can see when the pipe was blown in two

The real problem with a re-weld is that this pipe is solid to the cylinder and if the angle is not exactly correct you will have a bind on the pipe

You can see approximately how much of the pipe was burned out

This is the only part of the pipe that even closely shows where the pipe would need to be positioned. For you welders in the group. Is this enough?

I had to remove the battery and battery box to get to the top exhaust bolts. I was surprised that they came off as easily as they did.

Anyway..that’s where we stand as of this evening. I’m leaning more towards a new muffler but I may take it by the garage and see what they think.

My personal opinion is you don't have much to work with there just to re-weld. You could possibly add a piece of pipe in there but that gets tricky fitting it and worse if the old pipe is corroded.

Looks like alot to fill on the inside radius of the pipe. Not sure if you could slip a larger pipe over the two pieces and weld.

Hey G!!!!!!!!!!! It often takes a little time for my brain to kick in but I had an idea. Yes really!!! My old pipe is laying in my shop someplace. I will dig it out and send you some pics. That should fit the older model I think. You may be able to talk me out of it for say a 12 pack. The brute forces turn 4381
