| Pinnacle Creek & Indian Ridge Trail Systems Get Connected! These images of trail maps are familiar to anyone who's ever ridden the Hatfield-McCoy Trails, but in the very near future those two trail system maps are going to have a big line connecting them! Hatfield-McCoy recently finalized the last of their land agreements and currently is building a connector trail between the Indian Ridge and Pinnacle Creek trail systems. If the weather cooperates and everything goes according to plan, construction should be complete in the next few weeks. "The initial vision for the trail system was to connect communities in Southern WV with one continuous trail system," said Mike Pinkerton, Hatfield-McCoy Marketing Director. "I think that the founders of Hatfield-McCoy would be very proud to see that we have taken a big step forward in seeing their vision realized." This connector between systems is a first for the trail system. It will allow riders to now ride over 150 miles of trail and connect five different towns including Pineville, Mullins, Ashland, Northfork, and Keystone. This is right from the HM news letter. Laugh now please Trail connector we don't need no stinkin TRAIL CONNECTOR | |

This is right from the HM news letter. Laugh now please The more trails the better, but you're right, this connector was talked about "coming soon" back in Sept/Oct 2007. Then it was "imminent" as I heard someone once call it and was to almost be a sure thing for the '08 QC Spring Ride. (part of the reason that ride was planned for the IR system) But, when it's open and operational it will bring two great systems together with "food" on both ends... | |

| I'll believe when I ride it, legally that is. Wonder if that conector trail is going to be that trail that came into 23 just up from the creek crossing to the wheel. | |

| I connected them systems two + years ago. I think we could probably connect five of the six if we tried. | |

| Trail Connector ArticleI found 3 quotes interesting. “We have a target date of June 15 for the connector to open; the combined trail systems will be over 150 miles,” Lusk said. That was supose to be 2 days ago. Oh well another date that HMT missed. Connecting the two trails has been in the works for nearly three years, Lusk said. Ya we know you been talking about it for that long and when they announced it, they made it sound like it would be done in very short time period. Sorry, here's one that I can be a little more optomistic about. “It was Sen. Richard Browning who worked with the land companies and Bluestone Coal company to finally reach a compromise that allowed us to build the connector,” Lusk added. | |

| Now the rumor is they can't find or contact the landowner(s) for a small piece of land that the connector runs thru. So much for opening June 15th, yet another false HMT announcement. I just don't understand how they can jump the gun all the time with these announcement about new trails or connectors, when they haven't even contacted all the land owners. Looks like it will take another 3 years to open the connector. Till then just keep on keeping on | |

| I feel your pain Ruger, but because of this site I can say: WHO NEEDS AN OFFICIAL CONNECTOR ANYWAY? I searched for this fabled trail this past Saturday starting from the Tiny's Corner end. There's a ship of load ways through there and I think I found one that would make an almost straight across the haul road crossing heading toward Keystone. I was riding alone so I didn't go too far in. The GPS track via Goggle Earth makes it look like a candidate though. These trails were behind gates that stood open. I'd never seen them open before. Easy green rating for the most part. | |

| Lee, That's some good news.... the best I've heard in a while about the connector in a while anyway. Ruger, It was the same story 2 1/2 - 3 years ago..... the trails were there & ready (but needed maps and signs) and only (1) one landowner was the hold up was all they were waiting on. Seems like now you don't hear anymore info about the "East Lynn Lake Trail System" either that was once publized Like most people I hear "venting" about the advertised extra trail miles... they basically just can't come fast enough. Ride, Baby, Ride... Let's here it for HMT and Wild & Wonderful West Virginia. | |
