PostSubject: New Year's HMT trip report   New Year's HMT trip report Icon_minitimeWed Jan 02, 2013 9:55 am

Wacker said I had to write the trip report since I was the "new guy" at HMT this weekend. So, here goes.

Mr. Ed and Bev were already at "The Laid Back" at Livingood's when I arrived on Friday about 4:30, followed by Wacker and Giddyupgirl soon after.
Since we were all travel weary, we orderd a couple pizza's from the local pizza joint, Wise Guy's and settled in for an evening of adult beverages and story telling.

Saturday we awoke to cold and rain so we took our time and stayed close with a ride on Rockhouse.
The weather cleared somewhat later in the day, although it was a bit damp and cold.
We rode to Man for lunch at Keith's Bar and Grill and after a warm and some sustenance we ventured out for the ride back to Gilbert.
I was impressed at how steep the mountains are in this area and the same and better in the coming days rides. We did get in a respectable fifty miles or so.
After a day of cold and rain we decided on pizza again from Wise Guy's to avoid having to venture out again.
Scooter had arrived and was waiting for us at Livingood's and Sportsman arrived later on.

Sunday was colder but not wet. We had a bit of a commute to Pinnacle Creek trail in Pineville, and since we had trouble getting Giddyupgirl
out of bed, we didn't arrive at the trail head until about 11am. We headed for Mullens and Subway for lunch since Hillbilly's Kountry Kitchun wasn't open.
In spite of our late start, we still managed a good day of riding at close to fifty miles.
For supper we headed to Los Amigos for a little Fiesta. We made them a little nervous coming in with our adult beverages and made us cover them up with Styrofoam cups.
It must have worked because the local police stopped by for their free supper and didn't arrest anyone.

Monday promised to be the warmest of the days. So we headed up the crazy winding roads up to Buffalo Mountain trail head just south of Delbarton.
We managed to arrive safe and sound and unloaded. We had a good morning ride and headed to Williamson for lunch at Starter's. Its really interesting riding atvs through a larger town. We had no trouble and after lunch and filling the tanks we headed back up the trail. We encountered a mishap on the way back and did our good deed for the weekend. A dirt biker had managed to throw his bike down over the bank about fifteen feet. Mr. Ed came to the rescue, and we winched him back up to safety unhurt.
It warmed up to a balmy high thirtys in the afternoon and some of us pealing off some layers. Again we managed just over fifty miles of trail.
A supper of Ham, potatoes, green beans and biscuits was provided by Bev and Giddyup girl. Yum Yum.

The mayor stopped by for a chat in the evening and provided us with some local politics. It was a revelation to some of us that she doesn't make any money for being mayor.
I don't think any of us managed to stay up until midnight as it was New Years Eve.

We all got an early start in the morning and said our good bye's and headed home.

Despite the inclement weather we all had a good time. We managed not to break anything and no mishaps to ourselves.
My first experience at HMT was a positive one and am looking forward to doing it again in the future.

Pics to follow provided by others.

Nice pics...good time...only one correction to the trip report
The issues that caused the delay at Pinnacle Creek was the 25 minutes to make an Egg Mcmuffin at McD's and the ice on the road over to Pineville...
That is MY story and I am sticking to it! Razz Rolling Eyes

Sounds like y'all had a big food budget! I still don't see a deer in that pic. What is the white sxs? Looks unfamiliar.

He drained the battery trying to winch the bike up the bank before we got there
that's why Mr. Ed in the camo RZR is taking 'care of business' in the picture.

No chance to talk about the 'buggy' they had to double on the bike off the mountain.

I think the white buggy was one of these... Walked around it real quick.

Dash and seats looked real nice - the roof and windshield fit well.

Very nice report, Gearhead. Enjoyed everyone's pics, too. That dirt biker picked the right day to need help. Glad he wasn't hurt and you guys were able to help him out.

Ruger: At some point, a guy has to admit he is getting soft. Wink I remember not letting rain keep me off the golf course, lake or woods. I'm (we're) not quite ready to throw in the towel for our quads just yet, but the comfort provided by a sXs has plenty of appeal for the type of ride these guys just took. Maybe I'll wait for a version that offers ac. Laughing

During this ride, my folks were visiting from Florida and needed a ride to the airport. The ride they had lined up was to skeeered to drive them in the fresh snow we received. I guess, it was good we were home. Neutral

Thanks to all for sharing your ride with us.
Very Happy

Interesting, thanks for the info! Looks like a cross of a ranger and a rzr.
